Arrival & Departure
Arrival at the Airport
All flights to Athens arrive at the Athens International Airport.
Regardless of flight origin all passengers arrive at the Main Terminal Building at the Arrivals Level. Upon landing follow the airport signs that read “Arrivals,” to go through Passport Control (for non-Schengen arrivals) and pick up your luggage. Non-EU passport holders may need to go through customs.
Getting to the Hotel
Attendees will have to arrange their own transportation from the airport to the city and the conference hotel. You can make the trip by taxi or public transportation.
Taxi
It is recommended that you take a taxi to President Hotel. Taxis are available at the designated Taxi waiting area located at Exit 3 of the Arrivals Level. The fare will be whatever the taxi's meter indicates plus some standard charges.
A typical fare from the airport to President Hotel is:
- Day: €38-40
- Night (between 11:00 pm – 5:00 am): €45-50.
There is no need to reserve a taxi in advance. There is usually a long line of taxies waiting at all times and the queue is strictly honored.
Taxi drivers to do not accept credit cards and will only accept euros. Please make sure you have enough cash with you.
Public Transportation

Subway (Metro)
From the airport take the M3 train (the blue line) and get off at Panormou station. The hotel is a short walk away (less than 10 minutes). The metro is only available from 6:00 am to midnight. (Map of the Athens Metro).

Bus
From the airport take the X95 bus and get off at Karanika station. Ask the bus driver to tell you where to get off: Karanika is the stop after the Erikos Dinan Hospital. The hotel is a short walk away (less than 10 minutes). If you're departing by the X95, the bus stop is a little further away and is called Zagora. Buses to and from the airport are available 24/7. Accommodation
The conference hotel is the President Hotel, located near the center of Athens. There is a subway (metro) station nearby for easy access – although there will be a bus that will transport attendees between the hotel and the venue at designated times.
Within walking distance from the hotel you will find a large supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, as well as restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and so on.
Check-In
Hotel reservations have been confirmed as per the email sent to you 8 April ("Final confirmation of event attendance and hotel reservation information"), subject to any changes you made with the event agent (Erasmus) after that. You will only need your passport in order to check in.
Wi-Fi
If you need Wi-Fi internet access, you may request an internet card when you check in. The internet card is covered for AMICAL Full & Affiliate Members and provides unlimited internet access during the period 13-18 May.

Venue
AMICAL 2014 will take place at the campus of DEREE – The American College of Greece. Transportation between the conference hotel and the ACG campus will be facilitated by a shuttle bus.
Shuttle from Hotel to the Conference Venue
A bus will bring attendees from the hotel to ACG each morning and bring you back to the hotel at the end of the program each day. You can find the complete and updated shuttle schedule online. Be at the hotel entrance at least a few minutes early for the morning picks-ups, since the buses will leave promptly at the scheduled time.
Checking in Late in the Day
Attendee check-in will take place in morning. If you arrive late in the day you should go to the Library to check in and receive your badge and conference bag.

Practical Information About Athens
Electricity
The electric current is 220V AC, 50 Hz. The standard plug is the round two-pin plug.
Money
- Local currency is the Euro (€).
- There is a currency exchange bureau at the baggage claim area at the arrivals terminal at the Athens International Airport.
- ATMs are widely available all over the city, as well as inside the conference venue.
- All major credit cards are accepted in almost all hotels, shops and restaurants.

Time
The local time zone is UTC/GMT+2. The conference will take place during Daylight Saving Time, when the time zone will actually be UTC/GMT+3.
Weather
The weather in Athens should be sunny for the week of the conference. The high temperature will be around 20° C. However, a light jacket or sweater is necessary early in the morning hours and in the evening. Although there is little chance of rain we do recommend that you bring an umbrella just in case. Language
Greek is the official language, but most people speak English as a second language.

A number of tours are offered by Erasmus, the event agent managing local arrangements for AMICAL 2014.
All tour-related fees and expenses are the responsibility of participants and are not covered by AMICAL.
